The National Booking System · Step by Step

SwimSafer CAMS Guide

Since July 2025, every SwimSafer registration, assessment booking and certificate runs through one national platform — CAMS, the Centralised Assessment and Management System, run by Singapore Aquatics on behalf of Sport Singapore. Coaches can no longer book a test on your behalf; parents handle registration, tagging and payment directly. Here's exactly how the process works, step by step.

A Coach Who Actually Explains the System

Most swim schools leave CAMS entirely up to you, or worse, still act like it's the old system. We don't. Every SG Sink or Swim family gets one certified, SwimSafer-qualified coach who validates your tagging request promptly, tells you honestly when your child is genuinely ready to book, and walks you through exactly what CAMS needs at each step.

Start to Finish

How CAMS Actually Works

Seven steps, from creating an account to downloading a certificate.

Create Your Child's CAMS Account

One unique email address per child — CAMS allows only one participant per account, so two children need two separate emails. Enter your child's full name, date of birth and NRIC/FIN exactly as they appear on official ID; mismatches here are a common cause of delays. A verification email follows, and you can't log in until you click the link inside it. Alternatively can link with SingPass.

Tag a Coach or Swim School

This is the step that trips up most first-time parents. An account alone doesn't let you book anything — your child's profile needs to be "tagged" to an accredited coach or swim school before any assessment slot becomes visible. Your coach can usually guide you through exactly what to enter.

Wait for Coach Validation

Your assigned coach needs to validate the tagging request in the system before booking and payment unlock — this exists so coaches confirm a child is genuinely prepared, not just booked speculatively. Timing varies by how responsive your coach is.

Book Your Assessment Slot and Pay

Slots typically open around three months in advance, across a small number of approved public pools nationwide. Booking generally closes roughly three weeks before the test date, and payment is usually due about two weeks out — an unpaid booking isn't a confirmed one.

Assessment Day

Standard swimwear, goggles, a towel, and any stage-specific items your coach flags (extra bermudas or cotton clothing). If your child isn't present at the scheduled time, they're simply marked absent — there's no automatic reschedule, so treat the slot as firm.

Complete the Online Theory Quiz

A 90% pass mark, and it must be completed within seven days of the practical assessment. Miss that window and the practical result is forfeited entirely — your child would need to retake the whole assessment, not just the quiz. A one-time extension is sometimes available for a small fee, but only if requested before the seven days are up.

Check Results and Download the Certificate

Results are usually published within 48 hours of the practical. Pass both components and a downloadable PDF certificate appears on your child's account under "My Certificates." A result marked "Non-Competent" keeps the certificate locked, with the option to retake or lodge an appeal within 72 hours of results being released.

The Why

Why It Matters

One System, Nationwide Consistency

Before CAMS, coaches and schools ran assessments slightly differently from each other. Now, one platform means one standard — a Stage 3 pass means exactly the same thing regardless of where your child sat the test.

Real Transparency

You can see exactly where your child's registration stands, track validation, and know precisely when results land — instead of simply trusting a coach's word that "the test went well."

Certificates That Never Get Lost

Digital certificates stay on your child's CAMS account indefinitely, downloadable anytime — genuinely useful years later when a school asks for proof of a completed stage.

A Coach Who Handles the Coordination

The tagging and validation steps still need a responsive coach on the other end. We treat that as part of the job, not an afterthought — validating requests promptly so a slow response never becomes the bottleneck.

Worth Knowing Upfront

Common Pitfalls

The specific details that catch parents out more often than the process itself.

One Email, One Child

CAMS allows only one participant per email account — two children doing SwimSafer need two separate email addresses. Mixing this up is one of the most common registration headaches.

The Theory Quiz Deadline Is Absolute

Miss the seven-day window after the practical, and the practical pass is forfeited entirely — not just the quiz. An extension exists for a small fee, but only if requested before the deadline, not after.

No-Shows Aren't Automatically Rescheduled

If your child isn't present at the booked time, they're simply marked absent. Treat a confirmed, paid slot as firm — there's no automatic second chance.

Details Must Match Official ID Exactly

Mismatches between your child's name, date of birth or NRIC/FIN on CAMS versus their actual ID are one of the most common causes of registration delays.

Before You Book

Getting Started

There's very little to prepare beyond showing up. Here's what's useful to know.

What You'll Need Before You Start
  • A unique email address for your child — a second child needs a second email

  • Full name, date of birth and NRIC/FIN exactly as they appear on official ID

  • The name of your current coach or swim school, if you already have one

Before Your First Assessment
  • Your coach will tell you honestly when your child is ready to be tagged for a specific stage

  • Standard swimwear (no bermudas or cotton), goggles and a towel on the day

  • Plan to sit the theory quiz within a day or two of the practical — don't leave it until deadline week
