Swim Safer Stage 4 Bronze

SwimSafer Bronze is an essential program designed for participants who want to develop foundational swimming skills, water safety knowledge, and personal survival and rescue techniques. This program serves as a progression pathway for participants to advance their swimming proficiency and knowledge, motivating them to continue their learning journey in swimming.

During SwimSafer Bronze, participants learn fundamental swimming skills such as floating, gliding, and basic strokes like freestyle and backstroke. They will also learn personal survival techniques such as treading water and swimming with clothes on, as well as basic rescue techniques such as reaching and throwing assists. With a strong emphasis on water safety knowledge and skills, participants will learn to recognize potential hazards in and around the water and how to respond appropriately in emergency situations. Upon successful completion of SwimSafer Bronze, participants will receive a certificate indicating their level of swimming proficiency and water safety knowledge. SwimSafer Bronze provides many benefits to participants, including improved swimming proficiency, water safety knowledge, and lifesaving skills. With strong foundational swimming skills and techniques, participants will have a solid base to progress in swimming proficiency and potentially pursue other aquatic activities. Water safety knowledge and personal survival and rescue techniques equip participants with essential skills to prevent drowning incidents and respond appropriately in emergency situations, potentially saving lives. SwimSafer Bronze also serves as a pathway for those interested in pursuing a career in aquatic safety and lifesaving, preparing them for the Lifesaving 1 award, a recognized qualification in aquatic safety and lifesaving.

Swim 100m (4 strokes) continuously:

Perform the following sequence:

  • 25m front crawl

  • 25m backstroke

  • 25m breaststroke

  • 25m survival backstroke

Sequence 4A (w/o goggles)

Perform the following sequence:

  • Enter the water using a compact jump (in deep water), resurface, perform a forward somersault

  • Tread water for 2 mins

  • In 1.4m deep water, perform feet-first surface dive,

  • Swim through hoops on pool bottom for 2m,

  • Resurface and exit safely from pool

Sequence 4B (w/o goggles)

Dressed in swimwear, shorts and t-shirt demonstrate:

  • 3 mins swimming slowly using survival backstroke, sidestroke and survival breaststroke changing every 15m

  • Wave and call for help (rescuer to throw flotation aid)

  • Swim to a flotation aid and kick to pool’s edge, then climb out of water
