Swimming Lessons at Katong Swimming Complex

One of Singapore's oldest surviving public pools, Katong Swimming Complex has been part of the neighbourhood since it opened on 1 September 1975. Tucked into a quiet corner of landed estates near Wilkinson Road, it's instantly recognisable for the row of fish, duck and seal sculptures spouting water around its wading pool — a detail few of Singapore's newer pools can match. Lessons here are conducted by freelance and affiliate coaches within the SG Sink or Swim network, operating independently of our directly-run locations.

Coaches We Know, Not Staff We Employ

Coaches teaching at Katong Swimming Complex are part of our wider freelance and affiliate network — experienced instructors we've connected with, rather than SG Sink or Swim employees. They run their own lessons independently, with their own scheduling and pricing.

A Pool With Real Character

Katong Swimming Complex has been part of the neighbourhood since 1975. Between the palm-lined grounds and the playful animal water sculptures, it's a genuinely charming, old-school setting — a world away from a generic community pool.

The Venue

About Katong Swimming Complex

Katong Swimming Complex first opened on 1 September 1975, making it one of the oldest surviving public swimming complexes in Singapore — predating most of the island's newer sport centres by decades. It was renovated in 2008 but has kept its distinctly old-school, tropical character, with mature palm trees lining the pool deck and a row of fish, duck and seal sculptures that spout water around the wading pool, a detail that's become the complex's unofficial signature.

The complex has three pools: a 50-metre outdoor competition pool with ten lanes, a separate teaching pool for beginners, and a shallow wading pool for young children. As a standard ActiveSG "Normal Pool," it doesn't have the water slides or lazy rivers found at feature pools like nearby Heartbeat @ Bedok — the focus here is straightforward lap swimming, training and lessons, in a quieter, more residential setting surrounded by landed housing.

The complex is open every day except Tuesday, from 8am to 9.30pm, with early access to the competition pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6.30am. It's closed all day on Tuesdays for maintenance, unless Tuesday falls on a public holiday, in which case normal hours apply. Katong Swimming Complex isn't a CAMS assessment centre, so while lessons happen here as usual, the formal SwimSafer test is typically booked at a nearby centralised venue — your coach will advise which one.

Please Note:

Lessons at Katong Swimming Complex are conducted by freelance and affiliate coaches within the SG Sink or Swim network, not by SG Sink or Swim directly. Scheduling, pricing, and how each coach runs their lessons is set independently. We're happy to help connect you with a coach here, but please confirm the details directly with them before booking.

A Pool Kids Actually Remember

A Proper Lap Pool for Serious Practice

The ten-lane, 50-metre competition pool gives older kids and adults plenty of room for real lap training, not just a shallow teaching pool.
